In an exclusive interview with The Athletic, Arsenal defender Mosquera talked about his integration into the club, his confidence in winning and other topics.
Mosquera joins an Arsenal dressing room that is becoming increasingly Spanish in character. In the first team, there are at least 10 players and coaches whose native language is Spanish, including Spanish internationals Suvemendi, Raya, Merino and Kepa, Ecuadorian defender Incapie, and Arteta's assistants Heinze, Miguel Molina and Cana.
In this regard, Mosquera said: "This team is very good, very young, and has given me a lot of help. David (Raya) told me to enjoy the game and be myself, because this is what football is about. It brings out the best in you."
Mosquera started four of eight appearances and became an important part of Arsenal's outstanding performance at the beginning of the season. They are currently top of the Premier League, one point ahead of Liverpool, and have won two consecutive matches in the Champions League group stages, beating Athletic Bilbao and Olympiacos 2-0.
The last time Arsenal won a major trophy was the FA Cup in the 2019-20 season, but Opta believes that they are the favorites to win the Champions League this season, giving an 18% probability of winning, which is the first time in the club's history. Mosquera is convinced of this.
He said: "We looked at each other in the dressing room and saw the surrounding environment. There was an atmosphere of a winner, and we believed in it ourselves. We know we have the ability, why not believe it? In recent years, things have not gone in the direction everyone expected, whether it is for fans, players or clubs. But this year, people are very happy and optimistic, thinking that this year will be our year."
Arsenal has a group of young players with great potential, which also excites Mosquera. The 15-year-old attacking midfielder Dauman impressed with his performance during the pre-season tour.
Mosquera said this: "I don't want to compare, but his style and the way he plays is like Yamal, and his movements are very Yamal-like. I didn't notice him before, and when I arrived in Singapore, he was already training and playing there. When they told me he was only 15 years old, I simply I can't believe it. He's an incredible player and I think he's going to be a world-class player. "Looking at Skelly and Nwaneri at 17 and 18 years old, they're acting like they've been playing their whole lives, it's incredible."
