Excluding car sales, retail sales remained unchanged year-on-year in May, reaching 3.6 billion yuan. The increase in catering retail sales expanded slightly, increasing by 1.4% year-on-year to 1 billion yuan.
In terms of areas where sales decreased, gas station services fell 9.4% year-on-year; clothing and footwear fell 5.3% year-on-year, becoming the two major areas with the worst declines for three consecutive months, but the declines were both smaller than the previous month.
The latest retail sales data released by the Singapore Bureau of Statistics on Friday (July 4) showed that after seasonal adjustments, retail sales increased by 1.0% month-on-month, rising for the second consecutive month.
As for online sales, it accounts for 12.3% of the total retail sales; after excluding automobile sales, it accounts for 14.5%, and the proportion continues to shrink. Supermarkets and the dominant market account for the largest proportion.
Backed by automobile sales, Singapore's retail sales in May totaled 4.2 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 1.4%, and was bullish for three consecutive months. However, excluding car sales, retail sales remained the same year-on-year, even down from the previous month.
Looking at all major fields, automobile sales were the strongest, with a year-on-year increase of 10.4%; followed by computer and telecommunications equipment sales, with a year-on-year increase of 9.2%.
