Official news, Josh Da Silva has renewed his contract with Brentford until the end of the season, and the club has the option to extend it for one year.

Da Silva's contract expires this summer, but since he suffered a serious knee ligament injury in February 2024 and has been recovering at the club, he has now decided to stay in west London.

Brentford head coach Keith Andrews said: "I have always wanted to complete this contract extension and have held discussions with Phil Giles, highlighting Josh's importance to the team. He is a very important part of my plans and has a deep understanding of the future direction of the club and the steps required. Josh knows Brentford Football Club very well and he is a very smart person." We care about the young people at the club and we shouldn't forget that. But ultimately, we want him to return to the pitch because if he can return to his previous level, he will be a great asset for us."

After spending 12 years in Arsenal's youth academy, da Silva joined Brentford at the age of 19 and signed a four-year contract in August 2018. The 2019/20 season was a breakthrough season for him. He played almost full duty in the Championship and contributed 10 goals to the team, helping the team reach the Championship promotion play-off final, although they eventually lost to Fulham at Wembley Stadium. Starting in March 2021, da Silva missed nearly a year due to a hip injury, but after fully recovering and undergoing a complete pre-season training, he played 36 Premier League games for Brentford in the 2022/23 season.

However, injury problems still plagued him. In the first game of the 2023/24 season, he missed four months due to a hamstring problem. After returning for only four games, he suffered an anterior cruciate ligament tear during training in February 2024. Da Silva, 27, has since recuperated at the club and will enter his eighth season at Brentford.
